adam & greg & sometimes others
(1990-1993-ish)
notes
from the moment i lay my hands on a guitar, i started writing songs. i had to get greg to sing most of them. these are some of the less embarrassing fruits of our labor -from the very analog era of the sansui six-track cassette recorder.
doris gets her oats was a title borrowed john lennon’s intro to two of us. i think it’s fair to call it the first song i ever wrote. running 2:03, i think it was written in less than 2:00. spastic guitar solo -most were back then.
err...um...uhhh is mostly a song about not having anything to write a song about. a throw-away. oddly, i think it holds up better than most.
hats off to schroeder the first of many instrumentals. the percussion is a ball chain rubbed on a cookie sheet.
jacqueline (special edition) was written about my algebra teacher. neither greg nor i really recall recording this special edition.
mr. stillwater. greg and i lifted the name from a paul simon song. we spent an hour or so playing around with the character. we got next to nowhere. later i finished it up.
space song. damian taught me how to play the guitar. taught me how to play bike. he loaned me his yamaha acoustic for nearly a year. he came to my house one day and we wrote this. he, the lyrics. i, the music. i recorded it until the tape ran out.
trio for guitar and two violins was recorded in my college dorm. the guitar and first violin were recorded ‘live’ ...the second violin was overdubbed. the violin parts were written and played by nickolai.
where credit is due...
all of these songs were written and performed by adam kay with the exception of the following: the violins on trio for guitar and two violins were written and played by nickolai kurganov. doris gets her oats, err...um...uhhh, and jacqueline were performed by adam kay and greg scalzo. mr. stillwater was written by adam kay and greg scalzo. space song was written by adam kay and damian hickey.
